Principal
Dr. K. V. MURALI (M.Sc., B.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D.)

The Journey began when Nehru Arts and Science College was established in 1968, as a government-aided private college and now affiliated to the Kannur University, imparting quality education to the economically and socially backward zone of northern Kerala. It has long been recognized as a premier institution of higher learning with a vision “Education for all and for all-round development”. The College remains the most reputed institution of its kind in its zone by its remarkable performance in academic, research, co-curricular, extracurricular and extension activities.

The College has been able to achieve remarkable success in all areas with the sincere support and motivation received from the students, teaching and non-teaching staff, PTA, Alumni, Manager and College Management committee.

As a recognition of our endeavours and achievements in the academic, cultural and social realms, NAAC had accredited the College first in 2006 with ‘B+’ grade, then with ‘A’ in 2012 (CGPA 3.06) and in 2017, in the 3rd Cycle of Assessment, the college was reaccredited with ‘A’ grade with CGPA 3.35 proves the potential of this institution. NIRF rankings have further validated our efforts to uphold the highest possible academic values and standards. In the NIRF-2022 ranking, the college was placed in the 151-200 rank-band in India.

We also undertake regular academic audits and analysis to help us identify areas of improvement so that we can proceed our journey with quality education. UGC has assigned our college, the role of a mentor institute for encouraging and bringing the non-accredited institutions in the geographic vicinity into the mainstream under UGC-Paramarsh Scheme from 2019-2020 academic year and the college has been mentoring 7 Mentee Institutions. The college was funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the FIST scheme in 2018.

To promote the quality of education and inculcate the values, the college has initiated and implemented more than 30 Centres, Cells and Schemes. The Principal’s distress relief fund (PDRF) is the unique scheme initiated by our college in 2020 and implemented in full swing to extend financial support to the educational needs of the economically backward students for eliminating drop-outs and hence fulfilling the vision of our college.

I promote nurturing a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility through academic, co-curricular and outreach activities. Guided by our vision and striving to achieve the mission, let us take all efforts to ensure the quality of higher education to reach greater heights.
