Description: Large shrub or small tree, with dense bushy crown. Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic-lanceolate, emerge reddish, turning red-brown and then green. Flowers white, in terminal axillary panicled cymes. Fruit spherical to ellipsoid berry, dark purple or black when ripe.

Uses: Commonly used for hedges in gardens.
