Description: Large evergreen tree. Leaves simple, elliptic to ovate-lanceolate. Flowers whitish, sweet-scented, in compound trichotomous cymes, from the scars of fallen leaves. Fruit ovoid berry, turning black-purple when ripe.

Uses: Planted as avenue tree. Fruits are edible. Wood is used as timber. Bark and seeds are medicinal.
