Description: Small tree, with laticiferous and striated stem. Leaves simple, opposite, broadly lanceolate. Flowers unisexual, solitary or in clusters of 2 – 5, yellowish red. Fruit globose berry, reddish purple or blackish purple when ripe.

Uses: Cultivated for their edible fruits. Both rind and white fleshy pulp around the seeds are edible.
